Bottle Collecting
November 18 2013The hobby of bottle collecting in Australia really started in the late 1970s to early 1980s with many collectable or antique bottle clubs starting up throughout the country.
The Geelong Bottle and Collectables Club for example, commenced in 1982 when a few local enthusiasts began to share their knowledge of vintage and antique bottles and other collectables.
Antique or collectable bottles can be generally classified into two major categories, those pre or post 1930. Antique bottles pre-1930 include stoneware ginger beer bottles, marble bottles, pointy enders and goldfields to name just a few categories. After 1930 other collectable categories such as milk bottles, embossed label lemonades, whisky decanters and perfume bottles such as Avon gained popularity.
The regions of Geelong, Ballarat and Daylesford are rich in history and there are many collectors of antique or collectable bottles in the region. The Amazing Mill Markets offers a wide range of collectable bottles at our three venues.
